The YLP maintained a strict education agenda that centered on the need for a global solidarity against the Yankee imperialist. Their education platform tied several different global revolutionary movements into a common goal of liberation against the global capitalism that oppressed them alongside other third world peoples. Diaspora Palante continues this tradition of global solidarity, educating their diasporic base on the ties between current global issues such as US involvement in Venezuela, the blockade on Cuba, and American support of Zionist expansionism and occupation in Palestine.
Diaspora Palante Collective (DPC) follows the YLP’s lead in highlighting the resistance movements which have occurred on the archipelago, creating a more radical history than may be found in the typical american textbook. This can be seen in the above instagram post highlighting the resistance by Los Macheteros on the Muñiz Air Base outside San Juan in 1981.
Beyond this, they maintain a focus on the global nature of anti-imperialism, connecting several contemporary global struggles under a united front of anti-yankee interventionism. Further, in this work to expand global connections, the DPC collaborates with other progressive organizing groups, including the Black Alliance for Peace (BAP), Pan-African Community Action (PACA), and the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), amongst others. This mirrors several of the collaborations that happened during the time of the YLP and YLO, especially the close collaboration between the Young Lords and the Black Panther Party in both Chicago and New York City.
